definitely colored. i agree that what has been overused. colored, especially with the big bulbs, look very retro and cool. your house will look like a little gingerbread house. how cute!
I love the simplicity of putting up the white lights -as many as you want, anywhere. BUT I love looking at the colored lights people have even more. I just don't have the gift to pull it off :)
I think it depends if you want fun or elegant. Also depends if that is all you are doing, or if you have yard art and other things. With kids, I say colors though....but kinda like none of this is going to help you make your decision because we are all split. :)
According to rthe town ordinances where my parents live, only lights of one color are allowed. Multicolored is too tacky for Germantown, TN. Personally, I don't have a preference.
I grew up with multi-colored, so that is my preferance. My husband likes white lights. Last year, we couldn't agree so our house went light-less. We did put white lights on the pines in our front yard!
I like the look of the single color strands - red or blue or green. I've seen some cool decorations where each bush was a different single color. Or bushes one color, house a different color.
One year I think I can not do anything but White and the next year I think...how could I not have put colored lights up. The year its colored lights turn. I love the simple look of white but I want to have fun...so this year colored it is.
We do all white on the house as do most of our neighbors. All of our lawn, porch and window decorations are colored. My neighbor across the street does both. White icicle lights with the traditional colored along the roof edges (nice and tight, no drooping). It looks really good but I can't get Paul to hang double lights.
I'm all about "WHITE"...it's just so pretty however, I think the if you have shrubs...you could put pretty red/white lights on them or every other and it would look like a candy cane.
I love white christmas lights.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I love christmas lights in general, so I love colored ones too. (I know, I'm no help at all)
I think that it looks best if you do all of one or all of the other...I'm not so much for mixing the lights.
colored - tradition. the white ones have been so over done.
ReplyDeleteWhite! You can put WAY more and not look half as tacky.
ReplyDeleteColored. Adds way more character. White is ok-but I love seeing the colored ones on anyone's house.
ReplyDeleteIf you do colored, make sure they are hung well...looks worse if they are hung sloppy...I am sure which ever you do, it will be done well.
ReplyDeleteColored.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer colored lights.
ReplyDelete-Reno
WHITE! Just the one bulb lights though, not the icicle lights that hang down.
ReplyDeletewhite

ReplyDeleteoops. meant to say "white" instead of "what" in the post above. my mind was working faster than my hands could type.
ReplyDeleteColored, hands down!
ReplyDeleteI like either, but lately I've got a thing for small colored lights. I think they've got pettier colors than before, or am I just imagining that?
ReplyDeleteOh, and I've seen strips with just red/white - those are fun too.
White on the house, coloured on the tree.
ReplyDeleteWhite!
ReplyDeleteWhite or any single-color strand. My husband favors the red-and-green strands for our bushes out in front, though.

ReplyDeleteColored hands down. Personally I am so tired of seeing almost every house with white lights, I LOVE seeing houses with colored lights.
ReplyDeleteWhite. I banned colored inside and out years ago. Somehow they look so tacky.

ReplyDeletewhite - definitely! something about the white lights shining through the snowflakes gets me every time :)
ReplyDeletethe icicle lights we bought for LAST winter are still in the original packaging. maybe we'll have better luck this year
White lights. And as someone else said, make sure they are hung tightly so they look nice and neat!
ReplyDeleteColored is "tacky"? But on the other hand white is "old and boring". So, have some of both .... kinda evens it out :)
ReplyDeleteBlue!! All blue!! Looks awesome!!! Sweet!!!!! Love it!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI grew up with multi-colored, so that is my preferance. My husband likes white lights. Last year, we couldn't agree so our house went light-less. We did put white lights on the pines in our front yard!
ReplyDeleteColored is cool again.
ReplyDeleteWHITE --- simple, elegant and they look like stars at night (and sometimes snowflakes)!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the single color strands - red or blue or green. I've seen some cool decorations where each bush was a different single color. Or bushes one color, house a different color.
ReplyDeleteColored for the happy faces of the children.
ReplyDeleteMOM
White :D

ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm....I bet you're sorry you asked. Now no matter what you choose someone has insulted your taste.
ReplyDeleteWe do all white on the house as do most of our neighbors. All of our lawn, porch and window decorations are colored.

White hands down. Or those light blue ones that look so ethereal.
ReplyDeletewhite. i'm a purist. :)
ReplyDeleteHow do you find the time to hang lights with all you do?!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for colored - it's more fun for the kids.
COLORED for sure! Unless, you are going to leave them up until Easter, then I would go with white. Definitely white!
ReplyDeleteBoth are pretty...just be consistent.
ReplyDeletei love white lights, but if colored are done extremely neatly and tastefully colored lights are so much more fun! whatever you do, do NOT mix the 2!!
ReplyDeletehave fun
I'm all about "WHITE"...it's just so pretty however, I think the if you have shrubs...you could put pretty red/white lights on them or every other and it would look like a candy cane.
ReplyDeleteIt's gotta be multi-colored!
ReplyDeleteI think you should go for the Clark W. Griswold look! But, what do I know... we don't put up any lights!
ReplyDeletei've always been a fan of white lights, but now with children I may switch to color lights to be loosen up a bit and be more 'fun'.
