signs that your baby is ready for solid food

Holding Henry on our laps during dinner time has become a formidable challenge.

"Hey Dad. Whatcha got there?"

"Oh, I see! Is that potpie?!"

"Peas and carrots. I can eat those! Gimme a bite!!"

It's bittersweet to see my little baby growing up.

It's also bittersweet that I'll be cutting out of my diet, now that the weaning process has officially begun.

  2. Jen- Can you post your Plan for Weaning a Baby Who Loves to Nurse? I've got a one year old who has been eating solids since 6 months and still shows no interest in weaning.

  3. Why do you have to wean him? Don't wean him Jen. I mean - by all means give him the potpie . . .but I say let this baby nurse as long as you both want to!

    Yours in tripletness . . .

  5. Make NO mistake!! I'm not planning to stop nursing any time soon. But the first time you start to feed a baby solids, you are taking a step towards weaning them from you.

    That's what I meant.

I'm taking it one step at a time. I don't have any grand plans for weaning Henry. In fact, the thought of weaning makes me want to sob. With the triplets, I continued to nurse them at least 2X a day until the girls were 16 mos, and by then, my supply had started to drop. I was also traveling on business, so it just petered out.

I suppose I'll do the same kind of thing with Henry. But, if he's coming up on his second birthday and still pining for the boob, I might have to reconsider my strategy.

  6. That is too funny. Just wait until the older kids figure out that they can pass him what they don't want to eat...he'll get a full belly at every meal!

  7. Of for God's sake, give that baby SOME FOOD! He's a big boy. He needs some food! He'll keep nursing! He thinks your nipple is a pacifier after all. :)
