halloween preparations

Take a ride on the humongous pumpkin slide at the local pumpkin patch? CHECK.

Purchase more pumpkins than there are people in this family? CHECK.

Buy a candy carrier for each of our four children? CHECK.

Procure 16.8 pounds of candy? CHECK.

Coordinate matching costumes for our children? CHECK.

Implement exercise regiment that will be necessary to help lose weight gained from nibbling candy from three of four carriers and all of the candy from the fourth carrier - because that child ain't got no teeth - and QA/QC "testing" at least two pounds of candy from our distribution stash because I would never want to give out sub-par candy to the children of our neighborhood, and consume remaining 10 pounds of candy that are not handed out because there is no way we'll have 600 trick-or-treaters? PENDING.

  1. Your posts brighten my morning! I don't even remember how I found your blog (likely in my eternal quest to prevent actual productive work being done during nap time), but I have been lurking for some time now. I really appreciate your honesty and your sense of humor. One day when your little girls are Mommies (and the boys daddies) they will appreciate having these writings to look back on and know that parenthood (although great)isn't all happy sing-a-longs and joyous coloring sessions....and they too will appreciate your honesty!

there's nothing like a eat-uppable baby in a halloween costume. somehow at 13, they're not quite so snuggly.

We bought the same bags of candy from Costco... I made my husband hide them in his office because I didn't think I could resist until tonight.

  12. So are you saying your kids won't be eating vegetable for Halloween??? HUH? Is that how they do it in San Diego? :)

I can't wait to see the coordinating outfits. My last year for coordinating outfits was last year. Sniff. Now they have to be what THEY want to be. Sniff. Sniff.

Henry is delectable! I would pick him over the candy ANY DAY!

  13. Aah, you tease us Jen and the photo is right there on your profile. 3 gorgeous chooks and a baby chick. They are absolutely adorable.

It makes me wish we celebrated Halloween in Australia - just so I'd have an excuse to put my kids in cute costumes like those!

Hope you got lots of treats -although those 4 little treasures are treats themselves.

Love your blog and admire your approach to life, parenting and especially your sense of humour.

You are too funny! I am SO enjoying your blog! You probably don't remember how disfunctional 3-4 straight houses in a row could be - but I will tell you we had the BEST times in our neighborhood - even if the bigger boys picked on the girls and the bigger girls bossed the little girls around (AKA me) - you are too hard on yourself and strive for too much - let it all fall into place - you're doing a wonderful job - better than most of us! Noni did a great job with you!

Your old neighbor - Bridget :)

  15. Finally caught up, now I can comment!

Your children are beautiful. You are an AMAZING mom and Charlie is a keeper. I hope you get that wonderful note framed.

Hang in there Jen, you're doing great.

  16. In my haste to finish before 1 said Mr.Incredible (aka Mr.Matthew as my Mom calls him) fell asleep with his costume on - I can spell -Dysfunctional is the correct spelling - and I might add that the old neighborhood was a whole bunch of fun as I recall!

    Your Old Neighbor again....

  19. I LOVE your posts. I found your blog off another triplet mom's blog. I have 14 month old triplets and just shake my head when reading what I'm in for in a couple years. Thanks for the heads-up!

  20. Hey Jen!
I had a little bit of time on my hands and was looking back through your archives. In April of '06, you had a post about winning the lottery. Is that true? Just curious.
Hope this week is proving to be better than last. What 4 beautiful children you have. I hope the last few weeks of busyness doesn't discourage you from having just one more. I'm sure little Henry would love a playmate.

  21. Great pics!!! The kids look SO cute and you look GREAT!! All of that chocolate and ice cream you talk about so much must be low fat or something :)

Just be glad one of your peeps hasn't yelled "Oh dammit" after dropping the hymnal in Mass!!! I promptly prayed for forgiveness ... oh yes Father, I have sinned!
