too fast

In the 17 days since Henry has arrived, I've lost 60 pounds.

I still have 20 to go before I am at my pre- pregnancy weight ... and another 20 before I'm at a weight that would allow me to fit in to my wedding dress, but I'm happy with the progress.

I think the rest of the weight will come off pretty quickly considering I'm CHASING three two-year olds and nursing almost non-stop. I'd probably lose even more weight if I could get myself to eat granola bars and fruit instead of those tasty Hershey Kisses with peanut butter.

I have found my new obsession.

Today we attended two birthday parties. At both events, people commented how it was incredible that I was doing "so much". Several women told me that they still hadn't left the house two weeks postpartum and yet, they'd seen me - with all three toddlers, the newborn and the dog - hiking around the neighborhood over the past few days.

This made me take pause.

I'm really glad that I have the energy to be out with our children. It's been almost two months since I've been able to go to the park with them, and when I saw Carolyn swinging on the "big" swing at the playground ... I almost cried.

Even though I'm feeling pretty good, I'm sure in a few weeks when all the extra help has left, I will wish that I could do nothing but lay around on the couch and eat Hershey's Kisses.

Maybe I am doing too much too fast.

But so our are children.

So I promise to slow down.

But only if they will, too.

  1. I am impressed that you are out and about with a new baby and three little ones, and I applaud you for your energy! I have just one, and I am always out with him and have been since day 2! If people are in awe of me (and I received many comments to that extent), they should be groveling at your feet! :-)

  2. I was thinking of you today and hoping you were doing well. I don't know how you do it, with or without help. My little ones about do me in every day by bedtime...I am so thankful that the Lord knew we needed rest EVERY day, even though I don't get to sleep through the night yet and Creighton is 8 months old, the rest I do get is enough for me *usually* to make it to the next evening/bedtime. You are doing such a fabulous job and I don't even know you or have never seen you in person...but know that by the smiles and stories, we can all tell!
On another note, be careful with your C-sec recover stuff do too much...I always thought all the postpartum rules to be odd for a mom of more than just a newborn when recovering from C-sec.

  3. There really is no time to slow down, is there? (I've also been surprised at how many people expected my life to completely shut down for the first eighteen months or so of a new baby's life...) Like the preschoolers would LET you take a nap. Or eat Hershey's kisses all by yourself. ;)

Such darling photos. And you are so good at treasuring their childhood - I love it.

  4. Good for you! So glad you are feeling good and have the energy to be up and around. I'm sure the trio loves having their mama back in action with a new brother in tow:) Maybe it's all the practice you have already had keeping up with the trips. One baby probably feels like a breeze.

  6. In your dreams baby! They are non-stop just like Kyle! Wish I had been able to breast feed so that I could have lost the weight that fast!
Now I gotta fast between now and Sept. 26 when we will be in NY on the Today Show on NBC with Team Aruba promoting Autism Speaks! (more to come...I promise a new post by tomorrow with full details!) Love ya and keep up the good work. We are so proud of you!

  9. I love pictures of little children holding the leashes of big dogs. Dogs are such gentle, knowing creatures.

  10. 60lbs! In 17 days! Clearly you are my hero!
I'm having my repeat c-section in 8 days and I'll only be chasing one toddler, but hopefully I'll have a fraction of your energy and grit and we'll be able to survive.

  11. Good to see you are recovered, I chase two kids around with a newborn and I will say after that first kid (I have all singletons) my recovery went so much faster after each pregnancy.
I think it is great to get out and about; I was out in three days with my second and have been out and about since coming home from the hospital with my third. I have a two year old toddler so I applaud you doing that times three; but it truly is a wonderful age.
