road trip 2009: first set of clues

We left Sunday morning on a road trip.

The plan was to scoop the children up while they were sleeping, load them in the car in their pajamas and hit the road at 4 AM. But since we were up until 2 AM taking down our Christmas decorations ... and packing ... and cleaning ... and walking around in circles, we didn't actually leave the house until 8:00 AM. And then it took us an additional two hours to get to the freeway because we had to fill up for gas, stop at one grocery store - and then another - and turn around for "critical" items at home that we had forgotten.

(Even though the children had been up since 7 AM and absolutely could have been dressed before we left for the ride - they really wanted to travel in their pajamas because it sounded like SO much fun.)

(Henry's picking a winner!)

When we arrived at our final destination 14 hours after departing our house ... we calculate that we drove approximately 37 miles per hour. We stopped at least once an hour for potty breaks. Twice for gas. Once for air in our tires. And we were caught in horrendous traffic. Not to mention, we befriended a few stray cats at rest stops because the kids are going through a crazy want-a-cat-need-a-cat-must-have-a-cat phase.

Can you guess who really wants a cat?

  9. i've gotta say, that looks like Split Pea Andersons to me! Although, I highly doubt you drove from San Diego just to visit Buellton!

So perhaps Solvang? or Santa Barbara? Hearst Castle? Or perhaps like many have said... a stop on the way to San Francisco!

    Either way, have fun!!!

  17. Love the Gracie pout. Why is it so darn cute on other people's kids, but so darn obnoxious on my own little 5 year old?!

Anyway, I was guessing Vegas Baby, too!!
