believe me, I definitely imagined it

Last week, when we left Virginia and were hastily driving to South Carolina just as quickly (and safely) as our two vehicles would take us, and we were fighting back tears and thought for certain that I'd be resigning from my company and we'd be homeless and jobless and benefit-less, and the thought of driving two cars all the way back across the country was completely unbearable and how did we make such a horrible mistake?! ... we stopped for dinner at a Cracker Barrel restaurant somewhere along I-95.

And when I saw this sign on the front door, I perked up and said to Charlie...

"Would you look at this! Here's an option!!!"

It's good to know our sense of humor is still in tact.

Or at least mine is.

Charlie just scowled at me.

  3. After you called me last week FROM YOUR CAR, I updated Michael on the situation. He's been following your dilemma, too, and has been worrying about its mental/emotional toll on you as much as I have. So I updated him and he shook his head and said, "I don't think they'll make it back. They'll see some idyllic, peaceful pumpkin farm along the way and say, 'There! THAT's what we need, a peaceful pumpkin farm. It's perfect. The kids'll love it!'" Clearly he was wrong. He should've said Cracker Barrel instead of pumpkin farm.

Here's hoping you find the perfect peaceful pumpkin farm a block from work and the best school ever. We're rooting for you, Jenna and crew!

  4. I have been thinking about this quandry. My family packed up and moved to Columbia from Canada only to get stuck in the middle of the "drug war" of the 80's. We ended up moving into Peoria Ill. My parents rented an apartment in the area with what they thought was the nicest school and we spent six months there getting aquainted to our new surroundings. Most of the furniture went to storage.
Then they went looking for a house. It helped my dad could get settled in at work, my mum joined a local church and we started to grow roots in the school. The house came later, we moved again, and though we broke lease, the owners were able to find new ones easily so it was at minimal cost to the wallet or our sanity.
Don't make these things so hard on yourself. Find a nice renter and aclimatize and the house will work itself out.
