wednesday weigh in

In about eight seven hours, when my husband goes for a strenuous mountain bike ride with our neighbor, I am going to take all four children on a hike. This will be the first "real" exercise I've had in the past several days ... unless you count the work out I have received from shopping.

And running all over town showing our children the lights and sounds of Christmas.

And then I did break a sweat wrapping presents and felt my heart exceed 200 beats a minute when the children recounted to their father EVERYTHING that they saw me wrap, today.

Clearly, they don't understand the meaning of the word, "surprise".

Although I have BIG exercise plans for this weekend, for the past few weeks days, I've been rather sedate. In fact, today, I didn't even bother to leave the house and instead, helped the kids to burn off energy by having them chase a laser beam we named "Rudolph" all through the house.

Next week I'll be announcing the winner of the iPod shuffle. I'm thinking the winner will be selected by taking the top five (or ten?) contestants and placing them up for a vote.

So tell me how you are doing with your goals.

Or if you'd prefer, you can tell me your favorite Christmas song.

Mine?

Good King Wenceslas by the Skydiggers.

Unfortunately, the only video I could find does this beautiful song no justice. But wow, it's the most moving rendition of this classic I've ever heard (definitely worth the $0.40 cost to download and own it). Listening to this band perform this spiritual tale affects me so profoundly, it actually makes me want to live a better life and be a better person.

And you know, not just have my children chase a laser beam up the wall.

  2. Heading out for the annual Christmas Eve workout now. Sounds like a lot of fun at your house! I love this age!!

Read the post about G-pa. So funny. I remember my Mother talking about "the incident" like it was yesterday! That was your first visit south!! I still can hear my brother George laughing about the trip home ... "Aunt Grace if you don't stop this car so I can go potty Now your going to have to rake, rake, shovel, shovel!!" ;-)
    Have a very Merry Christmas.

  3. Merry Christmas! I have to share my new favorite rendition of a Christmas song this season, Sixpence None the Richer's "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear." Wow. I cry everytime I hear it. It is all over YouTube. In years past it has been Tori Amos singing The Little Drummer Boy (the video doesn't do THAT justice either). Love the laser idea...filing that info away...

  4. I think I'd rather tell you my favorite Christmas song. My goals have been fairly stagnant lately, although I DO have to get moving if I want to look decent in a bathing suit when I go to Hawaii in April. I did go to the gym on Monday, does that count?

I do have so many favorite Christmas songs and for various reasons. I LOVE the old stuff, Dean Martin's "Let It Snow", Bing Crosby's "White Christmas", Ella Fitzgerald's "Sleigh Ride", Brenda Lee's "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree". I still do love "Feed The World" by Band Aid.

  5. I played volleyball yesterday for 2 hours and had so much fun and was sweating, but that was probably the first time to sweat in a long time. And because I am a stress eater, I think I have put on lots of pounds! :(

  6. I am marching right along with my weight loss, despite a weekend long run-in with a 3.5 pound jar of peanut brittle heaven! I was down another pound this week for a grand total of 23+ pounds since I joined WW in September. My goal was to be in the 130's by Christmas and I made it!!!! Now I only have 10 pounds left to go!

  7. Sounds like you had a blast with the kids chasing around that laser light! My friend has two cats that we use a laser light with. They go CRAZY! lol! My goal has been reached and passed. I have now lost 31 pounds. Although, I was sick part of the time, so that helped nudge off a few more pounds. I got a Wii Fit for Christmas, so an iPod shuffle is looking REALLY nice right now to compliment it. :) Merry Christmas, from our busy house to yours!

  8. Exercise goals... well, not so much. The high in the past couple week has been somewhere around 30, and there is still ice on the ground. So, the compromise is that it looks like we're going to buy a treadmill. For a while I giddily decided that I wouldn't have to run anymore because of the pregnancy. Then I decided that I've been working my butt off for months, so why let it all go down the tubes now?! It looks like we'll be the proud owners of a treadmill within the next couple weeks, and I can set it up in the basement facing the kids' play area and jog while they play. That's the plan. We'll see how it goes.

    Merry Christmas!

    Cheers,
    Sarah L
