knock, knock!

Charlie and I absolutely love having seven (nearly) eight year olds in the house.

These days, our little people can often be found walking around the house with their noses buried in various books and they feel compelled to recite to us all the fascinating things that they're learning. One of William's most-read books is on "Knock Knock" jokes and this is one of his current favorites:

Knock knock!

Who's there?

Banana.

Banana who?

Banana.

Banana who?

Banana.

Banana who?

Banana.

Banana who?

Banana.

.... By now your audience might be feeling slightly exasperated.

Banana who?

Banana.

Banana who?!

Banana.

BANANA WHO?!!!!!

ORANGE!!!!

Orange who?

Orange you glad I didn't say BANANA again?!

.... Clutch stomach and fall to the floor in a fit of laughter.

While I know that each stage of parenting (purportedly) offers a whole new set of wonderful experiences, it's hard to fight that feeling of wanting to just bottle them up and keep them this age forever.  We're beyond blessed.

  1. That picture makes me imagine what they'll be like as teens! Your children are amazing, Jen! I can't believe they are almost 8 already.

  2. I have to say that is one of my favorite ages also. In fact, I stayed in third grade for thirty years just because I loved the age!! They are still little kids, but bordering on becoming "big" kids. They mostly love learning and watching them get the love of reading thrilled me year after year! I have nothing but wonderful memories, even the year I had 17 boys and 5 girls!!

There must be a handbook out there I'm not aware of..

  4. Ah I know this feeling all too well. My youngest is nearly 5yrs old and is such a joy, she sees the fun in everything, she is the happiest kid in the world plus she thinks her parents are amazing. My other kids are in their teens....very different altogether.

  5. Yes...the "Knock Knocks!"

Our Ian did this for four straight hours on a road trip.

Thank goodness he is almost 11 now.

Love to all and have a fun birthday and we are framing the lovely drawing the children sent for their Trophy note.
