For as long as I can remember (I'm only 22 though, so I've only been driving for 6 years myself), we have to hold the gas nozzle while we pump gas because it's the only way to keep the gasoline flowing (you hold the handle in and the gas flows, and if you let up on the handle it will stop flowing). I always thought that's why they call it "pumping gas" (since it's like a pumping motion with your hand). LOL. I never even knew that somewhere out there you could just let the fuel flow freely!

Apparently we're better off our way... I'll try to quit complaining while pumping as in the frigid, frigid winter weather next year. I have been noticing that I am getting many shocks getting in and out of my minivan (soles of my new shoes?) and now I will be SuPeR careful when refueling. Scary stuff!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24756113.post-76477727865409452152008-05-20T09:15:00.000-05:002008-05-20T09:15:00.000-05:00Thanks for this post. They have changed the system so that you have to stand there and hold the nozzle open to fill the tank. I wonder if this is why? So we can't get back in our cars to do something while it's filling up and then create static? This was a very useful post -- thanks!! I will be much more aware of this when I fill my tank in the future!!Cindyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12714326906987425183noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24756113.post-42811948157983379012008-05-20T09:00:00.000-05:002008-05-20T09:00:00.000-05:00Very interesting stuff, Jen. That's why we have reverse osmosis in our house to get rid of it. It also got rid of the flouride in our water. Shucks. But what can you do? Drink it?Michele Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15061520456909635254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24756113.post-20869558070677127192008-05-20T07:58:00.000-05:002008-05-20T07:58:00.000-05:00All I can say is WOW, and thank you. I found out that the company, prior to my experience, was sending out new pieces that exceeded the previous amounts of lead in the paint that the formerly recalled pieces had... NICE! It's amazing that Chinese kids all don't have lead poisoning!... or do the Chinese just use the lead based paints for the Americans?Geologychickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05326271846932273163noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24756113.post-51793841714147548312008-05-20T01:12:00.000-05:002008-05-20T01:12:00.000-05:00I have seen the safe fueling procedures posted at ...I have seen the safe fueling procedures posted at our (military base) gas pumps and now I know why the pumps don't have the aotomatic latch thing-y and your hand gets very strong holding it for sooooo long.

Thanks for the reminders!
